Take a Stand – and a thousand doors open

~ a contribution to the Girl effect blog-campaign

FOR ME FEMINISM IS ABOUT SISTERHOOD.  I BELIEVE I AM NOT FREE IF THERE IS ONE WOMAN WHO’S NOT FREE IN THE WORLD. I HAVE BEEN A WARRIOR WOMAN, AND I WANT MY GRANDDAUGHTERS TO BE WARRIORS AND MOTHERS. I SAY, HAVE THE NURTURING PART, HAVE THE LOVING PART, HAVE THE SENSUOUS PART, BE PASSIONATE, BUT BE WARRIORS.
~ Isabel Allende

I used to think that commitment equaled limitation. If I committed to one man, it would limit my opportunities to share love with other men. If I committed to one project, it meant that I would not be available if better opportunities came along. But after having burned in the sweet fire of commitment, I know that it opens doors to infinite possibilities.

By not committing to what is most important in our hearts, hanging around on the fence, we live in limitation; we live in the sad land of waiting to show up as who we are. We either commit ourselves with our whole being, or we waste our time in superficial distraction.

Some times you meet a person, or read a sentence, or visit a place, or dream a dream – that pushes you off the fence and all of a sudden you are IN.

One life altering moment like that for me was when I read the Soul of Money by Lynne Twist.
In her book she wrote “ I take a stand to end hunger in the world”.

!!

Can you see how her commitment opens the doors to the possibility to actually make that a reality?

A world without hunger.
Of course.

When I read this I noticed in myself how I had viewed the possibilities for the world out from “how it always have been”.
And of course,  if “ how it always have been” is all we see, that is what we will create.

The Girl Effect  Movement is offering us a vision of a world where the talents and gifts of girls world wide are viewed as one of our most valued resources.

I take a stand for a world where girls are valued, offered education and a voice, and invited to fully share their creative gifts and talents.

By taking a stand for what is important, I let myself be guided by more solid and trustworthy signposts than my fleeting desires and fears. Commitment is freedom in the deepest sense. It is the freedom to enter life fully, without hesitation, and to become co-creators of a more conscious, a more awake, and hopefully a more loving world.

We are each one of us co-creators all the time; each moment we create and we are being created. What world are you creating?
