This is a foundational practice to establish an intimacy between awareness and breath. The instructions are simple, yet the potential of depth is infinite. Bring to it a curiosity and a beginner’s mind; you cannot rely on memory to enter Presence.
Begin practicing with closed eyes, sitting or lying down. Set your timer for 12 minutes.
Stretch and wiggle your body a bit before settling down. Allow the body to be still, yet soft, a gentle invitation for the breath to enter you deeper inside.
Rest your awareness in the movement of the breath. No need to control or modify the breath; just become present with what is already happening. Let all your senses come awake to the experience of breathing: the movement, feeling, sounds, taste, temperature, expansion and contraction.
Once you are familiar with the practice, try doing it throughout the day while active and with eyes open.
