21 Day Sadhana

with
Chameli Gad Ardagh

Unmasked, humbled

and awake to the unfathomable wholeness

of who she is made of,

she turns and faces

our terrifying and achingly beautiful world.

Inanna has blazed the trail,

traveling to the underworld and back,

her initiated heart

glows like a lighthouse

within your heart.

She is calling you

into the messy and holy work,

of weaving the threads of darkness and light

back into wholeness,

a source of healing

and renewal

for yourself and

the world.

The rhythms of death and re-birth are as ancient as cosmos itself.
When we lose connection with this wider context full of memory and meaning, the times of dismantling and dissolution can feel like the endpoint, instead of a phase in a process that can initiate us and weave us back into the wisdom of the deep.

For 21 days, we will follow the ancient poem Inanna’s Descent to the Underworld as our map through times of loss and transformation.

The Sumerian Goddess Inanna moves through seven gates on her way down to the underworld where her sister Ereshkigal rules; at each gate she is asked to sacrifice something that identifies her as a goddess. Through the courage to voluntarily disintegrate, she merges with the Ground of Being beneath the artificially constructed roles that have defined her, and here she is initiated into true power.

Descending down into the dark and muddy realms of the unknown, Inanna cannot do anything but surrender. In facing her abandoned sister in the dark, she shows us a path of healing and integration every initiate of Goddess in one form or the other will be asked to take.

In following the powerful journey of the two sisters, Inanna the Queen of the Heavens and Ereshkigal the Queen of the Underworld, we learn to lean into the potent crossroad of paradox, and to stay rooted in a more expansive view. Here opposites not only co-exist, they co-mingle, in you, as you, and the world around you; from this deeper source there is a birth, a becoming, a manifestation of the deep creative power.

If you long to…

…cultivate a deeper receptivity and trust in your inner guidance to more easily navigate chaos and uncertainty

…turn towards grief, exhaustion, rage, disappointment, sensual longing and tender hope, finally face those feelings rumbling from the deep that you spend so much life force to avoid

…soften the rigid armor around your heart, and sink into a deeper belonging and presence in your life

…restore a trust and reverence for the Dark Goddess and how her crucial wisdom is needed in these unprecedented times

…learn from ancient wisdom teachings how to recognize signposts and portals that guide you to deeper meaning in your life

…liberate outgrown thought and relationship patterns that keep you stuck, and root yourself in the infinite creativitivity that is Goddess

Come, take your seat.

Who is Inanna?

Inanna is the goddess of love, fertility and of war. She was known as the Queen of Heaven and Earth and worshipped in ancient Sumeria, a civilization emerging between the sixth and fifth millennium BC, in the region now known as southern Iraq. Inanna later became identified with the Akkadian Goddess Ishtar, with the Phoenician Astarte, the Greek Aphrodite, among others. There are also signs that the Hindu Goddess Durga originated from this thriving goddess centered culture in the Middle East.

About the Poem

Inanna’s Descent to the Underworld was written down on a stone plate (c. 1900 – 1600 BCE), and was buried in the desert for more than 3000 years before it again resurfaced, offering to us a much needed map and context of meaning for the challenges and opportunities we are facing today.

The Spirit of the Valley never dies;
This is called the dark feminine.
The doorway into the dark feminine
Is called the root of heaven and earth.
It is there within us all the while;
Draw upon it as you will, it never runs dry.

“Chameli Ardagh is masterful at illuminating the ancient Goddess teachings.”

Many of us are inspired by spiritual teachings but to actually embody them, in a daily practice of breathing them in and sweating them out, is a radically different proposition. Chameli Ardagh is masterful at illuminating the ancient Goddess teachings in a way that is supremely tangible for modern women, without sacrificing their depth, creating a kind of frequency that sparks awakening.

“I was able to feel the presence of Goddess like never before”

I was able to feel the presence of Goddess like never before. The message of softening was there again; softening of the senses and the mental grip. Thank you Dear Chameli Ardagh and sisters at Awakening Women Institute for taking the leadership to hold this Sacred Space. May all that’s done be a blessing to all. Namaste.

“I have a deeper sense of belonging, stewardship, and devotion to the shimmering, sacred web of life”

I find no language for so much of what has transpired within me during sadhana. It will take time to integrate… I have a deeper sense of belonging, stewardship, and devotion to the shimmering, sacred web of life. I have a more keen understanding of discerning what is relevant and what is not. My heart has cracked wide open. For me, it feels as though sadhana has just begun… Forehead to the floor. I bow.

What is Shakti Sadhana?

Sadhana means spiritual practice.
Shakti is a Sanskrit name for the feminine creative life force of the universe.

Shakti Sadhana is embodied spiritual practice, where the Goddess is the portal to awakening. In this practice, you consciously engage with both your inner and outer life, your darkness and your light, essentially seeing all of it as part of the unfathomable wholeness you are made of.

Shakti Sadhana is not a seclusive spiritual practice; it is a path that permeates every aspect of our lives.

The Yogini circle is a timeless field of wisdom. Our online 21 day Sadhana immersions are gatherings of several hundred women from all over the planet, when we come together with a shared intention of awakening, the power of the circle is activated, providing each of us with powerful transmission of guidance and empowerment.

What will I learn in a 21 Day Sadhana?

The basis for all spiritual exploration in the Women’s Wisdom tradition is the insight that that which we are longing for is who we already are. Thus our practice in sadhana is not toward a goal of attainment in the future; it is a process of melting, of unraveling the wisdom and beauty already inherent within each woman.

In ancient Goddess mythology, we find maps supporting us in this awakening process, and you will be initiated into practices from this alive lineage of women’s embodied spirituality that Chameli and the Awakening Women community are dedicated to.

How does it work?

The sadhana begins Wednesday, October 7. That day you will receive your first email, and you will also be invited into a private online group. Once a day (except for the day of the Zoom retreats), you will receive a short email with a new practice or a poem that will inspire you and keep you on track.

On Saturday, October 10, we will meet for the first of three live retreats with Chameli, on Zoom. These retreats will take place on Saturdays (October 10, 17, & 24) at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern, 19.00 Northern Europe. The calls will last 90 minutes.

The retreats will be recorded so you can listen to them at any time. In between the live retreats, you will practice on your own. You can check in with your practice community as often as you like in the private online group.

Will I have the time to do sadhana in the midst of a busy life?

You participate as much as is possible for you. To do some practice is better than no practice, and many of the practices are done in the midst of your life, as it is for you.

Once you enter the sadhana, you enter a mandala of Shakti, of transformation. The practices and teachings will, independent of how much you “do”, unfold in unexpected ways.

Who is it for?

If you long to root yourself in a deeper truth, to live awakening in your daily life, to embody Shakti—the divine creative power—more fully, then this sadhana is for you. We do go deep, we do embrace both shadow and light as aspects of Goddess. We meet in a shared dedication to living awake.

If you feel called, a pull, a sense of YES inside…then claim your seat in the circle.

All levels of experience is welcome. Our focus in embodied spirituality is on direct experience.

YOUR experience is the authority. Always.

“I experience a profound level of trust and commitment amongst my sisters that is unlike any other circle.”

With each sadhana, I experience a profound level of trust and commitment amongst my sisters that is unlike any other circle. I’m carried into an ancient yet familiar heart wisdom that cracks open a river of love within me and flowers the depth of my creative force in the world.

“There have been both subtle changes and massive changes in my life since I started the Sadhana!”

There have been both subtle changes and massive changes in my life since I started the Sadhana! I have now been able to adapt a daily practice and remind myself of so many gifts that she bestows upon me and my life on a daily basis. I would eagerly await your daily email in my inbox because of how it made me feel to be connected to her grace through you and this group of incredible women. I am eternally grateful for opening this door for me because I know that she has always been in my life but I didn’t know how to connect to her in a deeper, more meaningful way. Now I do!

“I am on my knees at the power of this circle”

It’s been a big Sadhana for me…a return home into myself, moving through lots of my own shadows. Sisters, I am on my knees at the power of this circle. I feel it. I breathe it. More and more in my life I realize the power of practice—that I really do not need to figure anything out. I am beyond words with gratitude! I bow to all of you. I send you my deepest love from my heart and the fruits of this work
