Throughout all existence
“That” essential nature illuminating existence
is the Adorable One.
May all beings perceive with subtle intellect
the magnificent brilliance of enlightened awareness.

There are people everywhere chanting the Gayatri Mantra from the heart, which in turn is like a cleansing breeze moving over our earth. No matter what time of day or night you may chant, there are others chanting the mantra too.

Gayatri is an ancient vigil surrounding the planet. It is one of the oldest prayers known to humanity; its sentiment is as ancient as light. This prayer appeals to the highest wisdom, to the brilliance of the cosmos,
to illuminate a realization of our true nature.

To chant the Gayatri Mantra purifies the chanter.
To listen to the Gayatri Mantra purifies the listener.

How to chant
You may chant the mantra silently or out loud,
or even just listen to it while cooking or driving.

When you chant the mantra, hold the world in
your heart. You can also dedicate it to
specific beings or places that need some support.

How many times to chant
If you are the ambitious type, repeat the mantra 108 times;
otherwise go for 3 or 9.

Even if you only have time to chant it once
while you are in the shower, or silently at work,
it is still powerful. Remember you are practicing in a circle:
when you are asleep, someone else is awake;
when you forget, someone else remembers.
You are not alone.

Keep it light
If the words feel strange and hard to pronounce,
have some humor and patience with yourself.
Listen to one or two of the versions below, and you will soon
be able to mumble something that at least sounds like it.

Simple Morning or Evening Ritual

*  Light a candle.

* The candle symbolizes the One Source we all arise out of and dissolve back into.

* Let your hands symbolically gather the light from the candle and sweep over your head. Gather light from the candle again and make a gesture of washing the eyes, mouth and heart with the light while holding the prayer, May I be an instrument of light in the world.

* Chant the Gayatri Mantra.

* Complete with blowing out the candle.
